Diwali message from Andrew Dismore AM & Labour Leader Ed Miliband MP

Diwali is being celebrated across London today by London’s Sikh, Hindu and Jain communities.

Labour Assembly Member Andrew Dismore said:

“Diwali is a fantastic family festival where Barnet and Camden’s Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities come together to celebrate the future and reflect our past accomplishments.

“It has been an incredible year in London and Diwali is the perfect time to contemplate what we have all achieved together. Diwali is the festival of light and its central message is one of good overcoming evil and light triumphing over darkness.

“I wish you a prosperous Diwali and send my best wishes to all in both boroughs celebrating this wonderful festival.”

Labour Leader Ed Miliband MP said:

“At this time of year, oil lamps, candles and lights shine from houses, shops and public places, fireworks illuminate the skies above cities and suburbs, and streets around the nation turn into a bright celebration of renewal and optimism.

This year especially, Diwali reminds us how important it is not to lose hope. Even through difficult times, the lights and celebrations remind us of how important it is to come together for a common purpose.

On behalf of the Labour Party, I want to wish Hindus, Sikhs and Jains in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland a very happy Diwali.”
