Dismore reveals appalling scandal of lost Barnet police- 98 officers a week sent out of Borough

Andrew Dismore, Labour Parliamentary candidate for Hendon and London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden today published up to date figures, which reveal the extent that Barnet police officers are  being sent to perform duties out of the Borough ( see answers to Mayor’s questions below). Over the last 6 months of  last year, officers were abstracted ( i.e. sent elsewhere ) on 512 occasions  for a total of 2532 officer shifts.

That equates to a loss of no fewer than 98 officer shifts  per week , for 20 separate  times per week.

Mr Dismore said:

‘ We already have far fewer  officers in Barnet  than at the time of the last election in 2010- just 548, 60 officers  fewer, that is  a 10% cut, double the Met. average which is bad enough in itself. (see official statistics below)

‘On top of that, we now know that we are losing  almost 100 officers for one shift   a week on average,  sent elsewhere in London

‘These centralised demands completely  ignore the needs of our hard pressed officers in Barnet and reveal just how overstretched our police service has become under the Conservatives . No wonder the common complaint is we never see our police. No wonder violent crime is up  34% and only 3% of burglaries result in a prosecution.

‘There is no doubt that we need more officers in Barnet- yet Hendon’s Conservative MP has done  nothing except break his oft repeated pledge at the last election, to increase the numbers of police.

‘If I and Labour win May’s election we will protect the front line.
