Abbots Depot: Mayor Boris Johnson ignores objections

Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden has  just been sent the  unwelcome news, that London Mayor Boris Johnson has said he won’t intervene to stop the Abbots waste depot plan  – and Barnet can take  the decisions for itself.

Andrew Dismore, the Labour London Assembly member, who has just been formally  notified of the decision said:

‘Boris Johnson has  ignored all the objections submitted to the  Council and to himself. He has ignored the petition signed by over 1500 people. He has ignored the representations   of the ward’s  Labour Councillors and myself, as the London Assembly member.

‘He couldn’t  even be bothered to make the decision himself , delegating it to his chief of staff.

‘The Mayor has said he won’t intervene – and Barnet can take whatever decisions it wants  for itself.

‘This is disastrous news for the local residents, whom Barnet thinks it can ignore. They face years of more heavy lorries  more pollution , more noise, more bad smells, more intrusive light, more pest infestations and more risks to road safety.  Barnet Council should  be ashamed- and so should Barnet Conservative Cllr Rutter, who in supporting her Party before her ward residents has allowed this terrible decision to happen. She should resign’.
