Letter to residents on crime

Dear all,

I thought you might like a short note on the implications of the Chancellor’s autumn statement , re the policing angle.

We had a meeting of  the City Hall Police and Crime Committee yesterday which gave the opportunity to probe the details. While the announcement  re the grant is a very welcome surprise to everyone and the threat of thousands of officers  being cut has gone, it is far from the end of the story as my note shows!  Decisions re the PCSOs are now likely to be taken in January.

I will send on the transcript so you can see the detailed answers, when it is available. I also raised the issue of Jewish and Moslem and wider community safety and reassurance , post Paris; crowd funding’ of local officers; and the response to modern day slavery at the PCC.

Also you should be aware that we are fighting to save 13 fire engines from being cut from the London Fire Brigade, and the London Ambulance Service has today been put in special measures, so our emergency services as a whole are certainly not out of the woods!

Best regards
