Tory Fire Brigade cuts approved because Lib Dem and Green Party ‘no show’ at last ditch meeting

Dismore slams  Lib Dem and Green ‘useless incompetence’

——–

Labour London Assembly and Fire Authority Member Andrew Dismore has slammed the  Lib Dem and Green Fire Authority members for failing to turn up at the critical  meeting called to decide whether to accept or defy the Mayor’s direction to cut 13 fire engines from the London Fire Brigade.

Due to their non-attendance, the Conservative chair was able to push through the cuts on his casting vote, refusing to take the Labour members’ motion not to accept the direction, but to demand a meeting with the  Mayor to discuss his cuts with him to see if a way through the stand off could be found.

Mr Dismore said:

‘Thanks to the useless incompetence of the Lib Dem and Green Assembly members on the Fire Authority , Boris Johnson and the Conservatives have got their own way without a fight to the last ditch.

‘They were in the City Hall building in another meeting, but what could be more important than the safety of Londoners and the need to fight to keep the 13 fire engines.

When Londoners come to cast their votes for their choice for  Mayor and Assembly in May, no doubt people  will consider the low priority the Lib Dem and Greens placed  on their safety from fire.

‘These cuts are Conservative cuts, but could have been fought further if the Lib Dem and Green had done their duty by Londoners’.
