Dismore speaks up for community involvement in setting policing priorities

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore highlighted to Mayor Sadiq Khan the importance of community involvement in the setting of Borough policing priorities , during Mayor’s Question Time today (video attached)

Mr Dismore asked the Mayor:

‘Would you agree that it is important to get maximum buy-in to the Policing and Crime Plan from  local communities, and that this means devoting sufficient resources to ensure  that there are well advertised  meetings in all the boroughs for the public to have their  chance to engage with MPOAC and the Met; and to contribute their  points of view as to what they think the priorities  for their Boroughs should be, to ensure  that it is  not merely a  top down  decision from  MOPAC , the Local Authority leadership, and the  Met.?’

Setting out his proposed London wide plans, the Mayor welcomed local involvement in the setting of neighbourhood policing priorities, and made clear he did not want to see top down policing decisions.

Mr Dismore welcomed the meeting this evening in Camden with the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Sophie Linden, and urged the Mayor to ensure that similar meetings are held in all the boroughs across London, to ensure Londoners are able to have their say in the Policing and Crime Plan for the next four years.
