Mayor approves Med City funding and business plan

The Mayor of London has approved funding and the business plan for Med City, a collaboration of academics, businesses and the GLA to promote and grow the world-leading life sciences cluster in London and South East England. The collaboration involves the Mayor of London, Imperial College, King’s Health Partners, UCL, and the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the news, saying:

‘Med city will unite existing world leaders in life sciences from London and the South East and improve collaboration even further. The Mayor has put his money where his mouth is and funded the business plan by £500,000, which will ease concerns about the future of science funding and collaboration in the UK post Brexit.

‘I think Sadiq enjoyed his visit to the Francis Crick Institute in Kings Cross last year with myself and Camden Council Leader Sarah Hayward, and I subsequently raised Med City at the GLA in December. It is good to see that he is a supporter of the sector and is moving quickly.

‘We are in the middle of a technological and scientific revolution, and so much of our future prosperity will depend on whether we can seize the opportunities that are afforded to us, much as Britain did in the Industrial revolution of the 19th Century.
