Objection to Victoria Park Keepers Lodge

18/07/2017

Dear Sir or Madam,

Re Objection to planning application Ref: 17/4102/FUL, The Lodge, Long Lane, London, N3 2PY

I am writing to object to the above application in my capacity as the London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden. My main objections relate to the impact on the park and the neighbouring area.

The proposed building is too tall, large and overbearing and dominates other local buildings in an area characterised by family homes. This will result in the overlooking of neighbouring properties, and a loss of light to them.

The application would also have a detrimental impact on the park. I am deeply troubled by the idea of building a block of flats directly overlooking a children’s playground. There are many safeguarding issues that arise from this, and there is no feasible way of ameliorating this harm.

The demolition of the existing park keeper’s lodge would also result in a loss of local heritage. Despite the council doing nothing to maintain the building since it was unoccupied, it retains many original century-old features.

Finally, I understand that there is a covenant on the use of the land, which disallows its use for private benefit. That being the case I would suggest that a private block of flats here is potentially unlawful as against the spirit of the covenant.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Dismore
