Dismore welcomes Mayor’s objection to NLBP application

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the decision of Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, who has agreed with Barnet Council’s refusal of the application to build 1,350 units on the North London Business Park site, currently the offices of Barnet Council.

The Barnet Council planning committee had previously refused the application on the grounds of density and design, but Mr Khan’s letter, which allows Barnet Council to keep their refusal direction, strengthens the case against the current application.

Local London Assembly Member Mr Dismore said:

‘I lobbied the GLA planners very hard about this application. It was far too dense, and the buildings were just too tall. You cannot cram 1,350 units on such a small site, which is without good transport links and few local shops. A more mixed use development would be far better.’

‘Sadiq has also strengthened the refusal by highlighting the inadequate affordable housing contribution. This should have been a reason for refusal in itself, but we know Barnet Council don’t take this seriously. It is vital we put down a marker against overdevelopment, for good planning and to make new homes in Barnet genuinely affordable.’
