Dismore questions Camden and Islington Police borough merger evaluation

At City Hall’s Police and Crime Committee meeting, Andrew Dismore AM, questioned Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Martin Hewitt and Deputy Mayor for Policing Sophie Linden about the Camden and Islington borough merger evaluation (video: https://vimeo.com/243113966)

Mr Dismore said:

‘The merger of Camden and Islington boroughs police has created a number of problems, not the least in response times to emergency calls, though that does now seem to be improving.

‘The real question is whether the evaluation will be objective and not a subjective fix.

‘I was given assurances that clear and objective criteria, with numbers, will be applied and the evaluation will be published.

‘I pointed out that one of the key arguments for the merger was the saving of money, yet answers to questions I had put to the Mayor showed that no savings could be confirmed, either for the Camden and Islington merger, or for the proposed London wide roll out, which seemed to me rather worrying.

‘I also said that the Camden Safer Neighbourhood Board had been repeatedly told that it would be part of the review, but they had heard nothing so far, and if the outcome was to be assessed next month, there was little time for this pledge to be made good’.
