NHS crisis not being tackled by Budget says Dismore

The crisis in London’s NHS will not be tackled by measures announced in the budget this week by Chancellor of the Exchequer Phillip Hamond, says Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore.

Across England last year, NHS trusts were £791 million in deficit. Only 5 out of 133 hospital trusts across the country achieved the 4-hour waiting time target of 95%, and there are 4 million people on the waiting list in England. £6.3 billion will have been cut from adult social care budgets by next march. There are 6,000 fewer mental health nurses than in 2010.

Mr Dismore said:

‘The Conservatives are wrecking the NHS. The adult social care cuts are a disaster for the whole health service, because they put more and more pressure on other, more expensive parts of the service. Small rises in social care precepts will do nothing to stop cuts, let alone improve services.

‘For all Theresa May’s talk about mental health, her record speaks volumes. There are fewer and fewer services, especially for young people. The extra money announced by the Chancellor is barely a band-aid to cover a pretty severe cut. It just goes to show you cannot trust the Conservatives with the NHS.’
