Barnet Early Years Hub funding welcomed by Dismore

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has welcomed news that the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is providing £175,000 for the east of Barnet to work on helping parents access free childcare.

According to the Mayor, four new Micro-hub champions led by Barnet Early Years Alliance will develop a range of initiatives to meet local needs including setting up a new live feed to provide information to parents on the available childcare places in the area. The Hubs will also will bring family support practitioners together with early years professionals.

Mr Dismore said:

‘Childcare in London is expensive, and the Government does not pay childcare providers enough to really meet costs, so only 58% of eligible two-year-olds took up a free early education place in London, compared with 71% nationally. The aim of these hubs is to find ways to help more people take up free childcare.’

‘I meet with many families with small children, who want and financially need to get back to work and continue their careers, but are hampered by the cost of childcare, and the lack of available places. I am really pleased that Sadiq, and Joanne McCartney, the Deputy Mayor who leads on childcare are taking this seriously and are coming up with money and ideas to help families in Barnet.
