Post Office closure is bad news for North Finchley

A scheme to close the current Post Office in North Finchley, and relocate to smaller premises further away from the Town Centre into a new franchised office has been criticised by Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore.

Mr Dismore joined local Labour Councillors in opposing the move, saying the current Post Office was always busy, and that it was inevitable that the quality of the service would reduce.

Mr Dismore said:

‘This is bad news for residents and businesses in North Finchley. Given how busy the current office is, it makes no sense to relocate further up the High Road, especially when the Council’s regeneration plan for North Finchley wants to concentrate the footfall to where the Post Office is currently located.’

West Finchley Councillor Kath McGuirk said:

‘This is the result of yet more cuts by the Government. North Finchley has retained its Crown Post Office when Finchley Central and East Finchley have lost theirs. It is much loved and needed by the local community. The loss could be yet another blow to the North Finchley Town Centre, which has suffered from neglect by the Conservatives on Barnet Council.

‘I urge people to sign our petition on the Barnet Labour website or visit one of our weekend stalls, and most importantly of all write to the consultation at  comments@postoffice.co.uk and have their say.’
