City Lit win £600,000 from Mayor’s skills fund

The City Literary institute (City Lit), an adult education college in Holborn, has won over £600,000 of funding for 4 projects from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s Skills for Londoners Capital Fund. The fund aims to transform the capital’s skills provision by delivering 21st century, fit-for-purpose education and training facilities at further education colleges and other providers across the city.

The bulk of the award, £480,000, will be used to create an accessible Design and Digital Hub which will improve critical digital and design skills and employability for London’s future economic success by providing a world class learning environment, with industry-standard facilities. With the addition of an open gallery space, the project will establish a creative centre for Londoners, open and accessible to all, showcasing learners’ work.

A second award of £66,667 will redevelop 4 student lounges into inspirational spaces, improve corridor flooring and improve the film studio. The second award, for £33,258 will renew furniture in 30 classrooms and the final award, for £25,000 will renovate classrooms.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the news, saying:

‘It is vital that we prepare London for the economy of the future. I am pleased that City Lit bid for and won four grants which will improve their teaching spaces and the learning environment. Adult education and retraining are vital in a fast-changing world or new technology and skills.’
