Dismore welcomes Strawberry Vale compensation

Residents of the Strawberry Vale estate in East Finchley have finally been compensated by their housing association. Peabody have agreed to pay out £30,000 to 57 residents, after the estate was left without heating and hot water after the gas supply system broke down in February 2016.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the news, saying:

‘I visited the estate during the gas supply cut off. It was like a scene from a disaster movie where residents were having to have hot meals provided by the Red Cross at the Green Man community Centre. This is a victory of David over Goliath, the residents have had to fight very hard for this compensation. Many of them had large electricity bills at the time, because they were provided with small mobile electric cookers and electric heaters. Peabody did not handle this at all well and I hope they have learnt some lessons.’
