Dismore takes on Affinity over failed water supply

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has written to Simon Cocks, Chief Executive of Affinity Water after more service disruption this weekend. The company blamed the disruption on the severe weather.

Mr Dismore said:

‘I hear of water supply problems in Barnet more and more often. Last year the supply went down for a few days due to a faulty valve. Water is a human right, and no one can survive without it, therefore failures in supply are not acceptable or tolerable going forward.

‘In my letter to Mr Cocks, I have asked what the cause of the problems are, and how he is going to fix it. It seems to me that the original privatisation of the utilities has led to considerable underinvestment in the assets and pipes over the years, and we are now paying the price. I am pleased that the Labour Party recognise this and are planning on bringing back into public ownership water companies. I hope that is a wakeup call to Affinity and beyond.’
