Call on TfL to honour their original redevelopment plan for West Hampstead Overground Station

Transport for London (TfL) have proposed changing their plans for the redevelopment of West Hampstead Overground Station, potentially reneging on a previous commitment to expand the pavement in front of the station and around the bridge by removing a no longer fit for purpose and obstructive Victorian ticket hall.

Cllr Tiwari said:

‘Residents supported the scheme to redevelop West Hampstead Overground Station on the basis that one of the key benefits would be the pavement in front of the station being widened (by removing the existing Victorian ticket hall), thereby improving pedestrian access and space. It looks like this may not now happen, and that would be a real shame for the local area. Many local residents feel that TfL should have factored in the reinforcement of the bridge as part of the budgeting process, and should honour their commitments.’

As part of his efforts to maintain a widened public footpath outside the station, Cllr Tiwari has enlisted the support of local London Assembly Member Andrew Dismore, who has written to the Deputy Mayor for Transport, Heidi Alexander.

Mr Dismore said:

‘It is good to see Cllr Tiwari standing up for his residents and raising this important issue. TfL made an important commitment to improve the currently limited pedestrian space outside West Hampstead Overground station, and this should be honoured by reinforcing the bridge and subsequently completing the removal of the no longer needed Victorian era ticket hall. Given that these works are several months late in coming, it is disappointing that a much scaled down project is potentially in the offing.’
