Notes from meeting with TfL to discuss buses, September 18

Issues list

  • 13 bus
    1. Remains at a poor level of service with continued complaints about stopping early, irregular services. Time to scrap the contract?
    2. RESPONSE: Data suggests the service is getting better now, and lost mileage is down from 6% to 1%, with fewer complaints.
  • 384 bus
    1. Bus won’t stop outside Sainsbury’s or the New Aldi in East Barnet.
  1. No other buses serve the hail and ride sections in New Barnet around York/Gloucester/Lyonsdown Roads which disadvantages the elderly and disabled. The area is hilly and difficult to access in poor weather.
  1. Victoria Road (New Barnet) already struggles with traffic and accidents.
  1. The proposed reduction in 292 and 606 school bus may mean the 384 becomes difficult to use by non-school children in peak times.
  1. What is the planned frequency of the service and how long are the journey times from Edgware to Cockfosters during peak and non-peak hours? We opposed any reduction in frequency, which has already occurred, and the extended route should be covered by more capacity.
  1. RESPONSE: The consultation has just started and no final decisions have been taken, so they encourage people to put their submissions in. The new route length would be 45 minutes to 1 hour, once the loops are removed.

  • 274 Bus
    1. Plan is to increase service on weekends but reduce on weekdays. This is bad for workers. Also oppose double decking.
    2. RESPONSE: The crowding is at the weekend. Unfortunately the single decker is not ULEZ compliant, and they do not have the resources to change to the right sort of bus. TfL have agreed to supply the weights of single and double decker buses. We asked about a hopper service from Baker Street for weekend Zoo visitors, but this is not feasible.
  • Night buses
    1. Can we have an update on night bus usage?
    2. RESPONSE: the service is settling down, central London services had a reduction in usage after the night tube.
  • 125 bus
    1. What is the latest?
    2. RESPONSE: Enabling works are going on around Greyhound Hill. They are reviewing the situation at Finchley Central, to potentially keep the existing use of Gravel Hill.
  • 302/305 route
    1. Residents are not happy. The route has been taken away from some of the poorest ward in Barnet  and it is not fair. The changes are unnecessary. Is it on temporary diversion?
    2. RESPONSE: TfL to look into the consultation and whether there was info on bus stops and letters out. AD requested a review, they said they would look at it, as no decision is set in stone.
  • Hoppa bus for Finchley Memorial Hospital
    1. Any update?
    2. RESPONSE: No
  • 240 bus
    1. Why reduce frequency after giving the go ahead to NIMR site?
    2. RESPONSE: They believe the service has capacity, even with the restriction. If demand increases after NIMR they will review.
  • 113 bus
    1. What are your plans for this?
    2. RESPONSE: TfL are leaving this for now because of the Oxford Street pedestrianisation not going ahead, and the Elizabeth Line has been delayed. When it does open, the route will terminate at Marble Arch. TfL will supply data on figures from consultation that support and oppose this plan.
  • Future of the service
    1. What else is TfL cutting, and what is coming down the line?
    2. RESPONSE: Demand is dropping in Central London, and their principle is to deliver fewer services but higher frequency. The 134 will be terminating at Warren Street instead of Tottenham Court Road, the 14 will terminate at the British Museum, and the 19 will be terminating at Holborn. However the 112 will be extended from Brent Cross to North Finchley via the North Circular, giving a route back to Ealing.
