Sadiq Khan delivers grants for disadvantaged young people in Barnet

The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has announced £75,000 of funding from his Young Londoners Fund for to the Arts Depot Trust to deliver a programme called MINE.  The programme will deliver an arts engagement & access programme targeting the most disadvantaged communities in Barnet through a referral network. The programme aims to use Minecraft digital gaming and a live gaming show to explore mother/son relationships & how young people become leaders in Minecraft.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the news saying:

‘This sounds like an interesting programme, which aims to help with building family bonds and positive transitions from virtual worlds to real life. Young people have a lot of technology around them, but it’s still important to their futures that they develop the skills to maintain proper relationships.

‘I am really pleased that the Mayor is stepping in to provide youth projects. Austerity has decimated youth provision by Councils, and young people feel disengaged and left behind as a result. Sadiq’s ambitious youth project funding gives hope to those who need it most.’
