Dismore slams Oxford Union invitation to Malaysian Prime Minister

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has written to the Oxford Union to protest against their invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Bin Mohamad, who has a history of making anti-Semitic statements, to make a speech to the Union on Friday 18th January.

In his letter to the President of the Union Daniel Wilkinson, Mr Dismore asked if it was “really acceptable in the view of the Oxford Union to say things like there were only 4 million killed in the Holocaust? I thought the purpose of a university was to seek out the truth, not to give a platform for discredited conspiracy theories.”

Mr Dismore said:

‘Jewish Students on campus feel less and less safe. By hosting a noted anti-Semite, Oxford Union are propagating a hostile environment for Jews, giving a platform to a man who has denied the severity of the Holocaust, propagated anti-Semitic tropes, and made straightforward racist comments.’
