Official complaint made about Coroner Hassell

Labour London Assembly Member Andrew Dismore has made an official complaint to the Judicial Conduct Investigations Office over the behaviour of controversial Inner North London Coroner Mary Hassell and her handling of the death of Rabbi Bobby Hill.

Rabbi Hill’s case was referred to Ms Hassell’s office on May 11th 2020, but she did not release his body until May 15th despite pleas from his family to expedite the process and allow the required religious observances to take place. Jewish funerary practices require burial within 24 hours.

Mr Dismore said:

‘I have been left with no choice but to make an official complaint about Ms Hassell and her outrageous behaviour towards members of the Jewish community. She has demonstrated time and time again that she does not understand the need to organise funerals quickly, and in my opinion this is discriminatory. I reiterate my calls for her to resign and allow someone else to take up the role who has suitable understanding of the needs of diverse communities.’
