‘Bus services must be fully kept’ says Dismore
Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has expressed concerns about the future of bus services from London to Hertfordshire after Hertfordshire County Council proposed cutting £390,000 of funding for Transport for London which helps fund the 107, 142, 292 and 298 services.
Mr Dismore said:
‘It is vital that these important bus routes maintain their services. Transport links between Barnet and nearby towns in Hertfordshire like Watford and Borehamwood are not good anyways, so a reduction to the services will make matters worse. I have particular concerns about the 107 service, which serves Arkley in High Barnet and Stirling Corner. Residents there must not be left without any public transport or they will be left isolated. Barnet Hospital already has too many cars parking there, and to lose the bus service to Borehamwood will make a bad situation worse.
‘If fewer people can get to Brent Cross easily then the shopping centre will suffer and jobs may be lost. At a time when Brent Cross is trying to expand, it makes little sense to make it accessible to fewer people. The 142 is a very good service to Watford, which brings shoppers and workers. It also provides another link to Edgware Hospital.
‘The bus network is used primarily by the poorest Londoners and this city should be proud of one of the world’s most comprehensive networks. A reduction in the service would be another example of how austerity hits the most vulnerable and the worst off.
