Junior Doctor’s strike

Commenting on yesterday’s strike by junior doctors, Labour’s London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore AM said:

“Our junior doctors do an amazing job but are being placed under more and more strain as a result of the Government’s underinvestment in the NHS. Now they are being told they will have to work longer hours, including weekends and night, for less money. Of course today’s strike is a real disappointment, including to junior doctors themselves, but it’s little surprise that we have come to this point.

“Responsibility for today’s strike rests firmly with the Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt. In London we’ve seen the strain the NHS is under with over 10,000 nursing vacancies, A&E waiting time targets missed and doctors under immense pressure. It’s time the Government recognises the incredible role junior doctors play and listened to their legitimate concerns. I urge the Government to heed the concerns of the junior doctors and for both sides to go back to sincere negotiations.”
