Briardale Gardens “an accident waiting to happen”

Dangerous driving turning into Briardale Gardens from the Finchley Road is “an accident waiting to happen” says Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore. Residents of the Camden road are in dispute with neighbouring Barnet Council about how to resolve long-running safety concerns at the junction,

Camden Council and local residents are seeking to ban the turn into Briardale Gardens from Finchley Road, but residents of Pattison Road in Barnet, which runs parallel, would like to see both roads banned turns, but only at peak times in the morning and evening. The Camden residents maintain that this would be unlikely to resolve the problem.

Mr Dismore said:

‘I have written to the Deputy Mayor of London for Transport Val Shawcross about it. Barnet’s solution just doesn’t seem like it will fix anything, and in fact it won’t get resolved without arbitration from Transport for London. I have asked for a local plan to be drawn up which would look at the problem in the whole, address displaced traffic and look at wider design solution and capital funding needed.’

‘I receive regular communications from residents about how concerned they are, and it does seem as if an accident is just waiting to happen. I don’t know why Barnet Council are being so uncooperative when public safety is at stake.’
