Camden Council deliver more affordable housing than Barnet
Camden’s Labour Council has been praised by Andrew Dismore, the local Labour London Assembly Member, after the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced that 334 affordable homes had started being built between 2018 and 2019 in the borough. In contrast, Conservative run Barnet had started 325 during the same period.
Mr Dismore said:
‘Camden is less than a quarter of the geographic area that Barnet is, and has only two thirds the number of households. It is therefore astonishing that they should produce more affordable housing. This is entirely because the Labour leadership of Camden Council are committed to building more genuinely affordable homes, whereas Barnet’s failed Conservative leadership are not.’
Barnet Labour deputy leader Cllr Ross Houston added:
‘The Conservatives on Barnet rarely object to planning schemes on the basis of a lack of affordable provision and they are extremely poor negotiators, exemplified by their failing capita contracts. Their former cabinet member for housing even admitted that they didn’t want to see more affordable housing.’
