Press release: Dismore Raises Police Numbers at Mayor’s Question Time

Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden, has raised the issue of future police numbers during Mayor’s question time. Mr Dismore challenged Conservative Mayor Johnson over his pledge to build police numbers London.

Mr Dismore said:

“Mayor Johnson was unable or unwilling g to say how many full time police officers and PCSOs he expects there to be in London in a year’s time.

“We know that there are now over 1400 officers fewer than when the Conservative Government came to power in 2010, there now being 31,825 as opposed to then, 33,260.

“I asked him repeatedly, but the Mayor would not say that the number would be the same in a year’s time, nor give any figure as to what he expected the numbers to be.

“ The Mayor now has clear political responsibly for the police, and he ought to know and to share with the Assembly at the very least what size of Met. he anticipates- unless he is covering up for cuts in the police service next year.”
