Dismore attacks Barnet council failure to stand up for local schools
At this week’s London Assembly plenary meeting, Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore AM attacked Conservative Barnet Council for failing to stand up for local children and schools. (see clip of speech here)
Mr Dismore said:
‘Barnet schools are facing cuts in Government funding of £23 million, that’s £497 on average for every schoolchild and student in the borough. Whitefield School stands to lose 14% of its funding, Wren Academy 14% and Hasmonean 13%.
‘You would have thought that Barnet Conservatives would stand up for local kids and lobby the Government over this, but they have done the opposite.
‘Councillor Reuben Thompstone, Education Committee chair, has said he actually supports what is going on!
‘The first job of any council must be to stand up for local services, but Barnet Conservatives have manifestly failed to do so, including the three borough Conservative MPs , not one of whom have said a peep against the cuts, but vote for the budgets that cause them’.
