Night buses

Question No: 2017/4541

Member: Andrew Dismore

What consultation was done before TfL decided to reduce night bus services in North London? If none was done, why not? Will you delay these cuts to carry out a consultation?

Written response from the Mayor

Since the introduction of the Night Tube there has been a fall in demand for Night Buses, as anticipated. Demand has fallen by approximately thirteen per cent on Friday and Saturday in 2017/18 when compared to 2016/17.

Transport for London (TfL) constantly adapts the network to match capacity with changing patterns of demand. Although TfL always consults on all structural route changes, frequency adjustments are not usually consulted upon, unless the adjustments are linked to wider network changes.

A report detailing forthcoming frequency changes is published on the TfL website every fortnight:

drug dealers using social media sites

Question No: 2018/0256

Member: Andrew Dismore

Reports suggest that drug dealers are increasingly using social media sites such as Instagram and Snapchat to sell illegal substances to young people. What action can you and the police take to prevent this activity?

Written response from the Mayor

Social media sites themselves have a responsibility to enforce their guidelines and practices which will preclude the use of their sites for illegal gain.

The Met are aware of drug dealers that seek to operate by using the many social networking sites and various applications in order to conduct their business undetected. When such cases are brought to the attention of officers they are acted upon. There are a number of tactics used to combat this type of dealing but sharing operational detail would not be appropriate.
