New Finchley and Golders Green Labour candidate congratulated by Dismore

Barnet Councillor Sara Conway has been selected by members of the Labour Party in Finchley and Golders Green as their next Parliamentary candidate. Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore welcomed the selection and pledged to support Cllr Conway in overturning the Conservative majority of 1,657.

Cllr Conway, who was born, grew up and lives locally in Finchley and Golders Green, had been a Barnet Councillor since 2018, and is the Barnet Labour Group spokesperson for Community Leadership and Libraries.

Mr Dismore said:

‘I am delighted that Sara has been selected, I have worked closely with her as a Councillor and am hugely impressed by her abilities. She has immense compassion for people who need help, and has already built up a phenomenal reputation for dealing with urgent matters professionally and proactively. Sara is someone who brings people together to find solutions, she gets things done!

I am sure she will be a real advocate for Finchley and Golders Green. Whether it is road safety in East Finchley, regeneration in Cricklewood and North Finchley, tube noise in Finchley Central or on parking in Golders Green, Sara will be the people’s champion. On the issue of Brexit she will listen to the over 20,000 people who signed the petition to revoke Article 50 and will push for a people’s vote.’

Cllr Conway added:

‘I have real understanding of our local communities from regular campaigning in Finchley and Golders Green. I see every day how hard life is for many people because Tory austerity has done so much damage to schools, local services and social care. I will also be a strong voice on Brexit and antisemitism, which are two key issues of concern to local members and residents. I look forward to continuing to work with Andrew Dismore who has been so supportive in our fight to try to help local people’.
