Long-awaited Stirling Corner pedestrian and cycle works nearing completion
Work to install new pedestrian and cycle crossing facilities at Stirling Corner are due to be completed at the end of February, according to a written answer from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore.
Work began to upgrade crossing facilities in November 2019, after decades-long campaigning by local residents in Arkley Park and Elstree Park, who have difficulty crossing the busy roundabout to access the Morrisons Supermarket and local bus stops.
Mr Dismore said:
‘I am really pleased to see that this decades-long campaign is finally being resolved, I have been working on it for 20 years, as the MP for Hendon previously and now as the London assembly Member for Barnet and Camden. I asked dozens of questions of Boris Johnson when he was the Mayor of London, who promised to cycle round it to demonstrate how safe it was. As usual for him, he did not deliver on his promise. Sadiq Khan though has delivered.’
Underhill Councillor Tim Roberts added:
‘Local residents will be very pleased by this news. It has taken a long time, but Sadiq Khan takes pedestrian and cycle safety very seriously and he has seen the benefit these improvements will make to those who walk around the roundabout.’
