Press release: GLA election results: Dismore wins all three Barnet parliamentary consituencies

The official breakdown of the London Assembly election results just published show that the successful Labour candidate not only won the Barnet and Camden Assembly seat, if a General Election had been held on the same day he would have had a majority in all three of the Barnet parliamentary seats. (Breakdown below).

Mr Dismore would have won Chipping Barnet by 9,586 (Lab) to 7,854 ( Cons) a majority of 1,732; Finchley and Golders Green by 10,899 (Lab) to 8,367 (Cons), and his former parliamentary seat of Hendon by a massive 12,708 (Lab) to 6336 (Cons).

Mr Dismore also won, at local ward level, 18 of the 22 Barnet Council wards (including Brunswick Park where there is shortly to be a Council by-election), to the Conservatives holding only 4 of their very safest wards.

Mr Dismore said:

“This analysis shows just how seriously the Conservative Party is in trouble in Barnet. Even in the heady days of our 1997 landslide we did not do as well as this. It is not just about an unpopular incumbent in Brian Coleman it is about how low the Conservatives have sunk in the Borough. These results confirm the trend set in the East Finchley by election a few weeks ago.

The results show that the Council is vulnerable to Labour in the full Council elections in two years time and the three Conservative MPs are on borrowed time.”
