Mayor Johnson cannot say why he left HS2 impact in Camden out of his manifesto
Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member for Camden and Barnet raised with Mayor Johnson at the first Mayor’s Question Time the mayor’s failure to mention the impact on Camden of HS2 in his Transport manifesto for the Mayoral election. Under the rules, the Mayor should have responded by Monday 28th May, but has issued only a holding reply ( see below)
Mr Dismore said:
“Surely the mayor should be able to answer promptly a simple question about his own manifesto. In my opinion, it is not for mayor’s office staff to draft a reply to what is a political issue like this, either. I think most Camden residents would be capable of answering the question for him anyway : he didn’t refer to Camden because he doesn’t care about the loss of homes and businesses here, he is only interested in the wealthier parts of west London.
Conservative Mayor Johnson needs to realise the huge impact of HS2 on Camden and its residents and to follow the Labour Council’s lead in standing up to the Transport Secretary in Whitehall”.
Mr Dismore’s question and the mayor’s response:
HS2
Question No: 1321 / 2012
Andrew Dismore
Why, when raising the issue of HS2 in your transport manifesto, did you only refer to the impact on West London, entirely ignoring the loss of homes and damage to businesses in Camden?
