Dismore challenges Veolia Water over continuation of hosepipe ban

Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, has welcomed Thames Water’s announcement that it lifted its hosepipe ban at 00:01 this morning.

However, Veolia Water, which serves many constituents in the north of the London Assembly constituency, have confirmed that they are not lifting their ban.

In light of their refusal to do so, Andrew Dismore has written to the Chief Executive of Veolia Water, asking for an explanation and for confirmation of their future intentions.

Andrew Dismore AM said:

“Most residents in the south of the Barnet & Camden constituency are served by Thames Water and the decision to lift the ban is a welcome one. However, given all the heavy rain in the last few months, it is astounding that Veolia has not followed suit. I and many residents in the north of the Assembly constituency want to know why.

It is bizarre, that homes within a few metres of each other are in a different position: some residents will be able to use a hose pipe freely, whilst their near neighbours face a fine for doing exactly the same thing.

This needs addressing by Veolia as a matter of urgency.”
