“If there was a gold medal for dropping the ball, Boris would be an Olympic Champion”

Labour Assembly Member Andrew Dismore is calling for Boris Johnson to reveal how many businesses the Mayor’s office has contacted as part of the Mayors own pledge to secure places for apprentices from 1,000 business.

This weekend’s closing ceremony coincides with the 100 day mark of Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson’s re-election. The theme for London2012 is the concept of using the Games to “Inspire a new generation”. On May 10th this year Boris Johnson stated that over the next 100 days he would get 1,000 businesses in London, particularly from Small Medium Enterprises, to announce and commit to taking on apprentices. By June 13th Boris Johnson admitted that his office “has not yet completed its list of companies we intend to contact.”

Labour London Assembly Member Andrew Dismore said: “If there was a gold medal for dropping the ball, Boris would be an Olympic Champion. It’s now time for him to focus back on the real needs for Londoners. The best way to inspire a new generation is to provide them with opportunities.”

“Boris needs to pull himself away from the razzmatazz of the Olympics, and focus on the important work of building a real legacy for young Londoners- he should start with delivering his promised apprenticeships places.”
