Dismore launches Stirling Corner road safety consultation

Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden has launched a residents’ consultation on road safety at Stirling Corner.

In 2011, Transport for London, backed up by the then Assembly Member for Barnet & Camden and Barnet Council supported the complete removal the traffic lights. This was overwhelmingly rejected by residents. At present the traffic lights only operate for three hours a day (3:30pm-6:30pm), so that residents living near the junction cannot cross the road safely as the level and speed of traffic is too dangerous.

Prior to the last parliamentary boundary change, Stirling Corner was part of the Hendon constituency. At that time Mr Dismore, as MP for Hendon, campaigned on behalf of residents to improve the junction.

Mr Dismore said:

“After almost 8 years of inaction by TFL, Barnet Council, the previous Assembly Member and the MP for Chipping Barnet, residents have been left feeling forgotten.

Residents are so cut off from the nearest supermarket and other local amenities that they even  have to use the  bus for just  one stop to get across the roundabout!

Transport for London must put safety first and make the lights 24 hour.”
