Conservative Assembly leader apologises to Dismore for defamatory statement

Andrew Dismore AM, London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden, has received an apology from Andrew Boff AM, Leader of the Conservative Group on the Assembly for  a defamatory statement  which was sent to Barnet local newspapers, published on Mr Boff’s website, and circulated to Conservative Barnet Councillors, one of whom repeated the defamation in the Council Chamber.

The apology came after Mr Dismore had to threaten legal action for libel for the second time in three months against a Conservative Assembly member. The terms of the apology are as follows:

“In a previous post on this website I referred to London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore’s position on the issue of fire station closures. I wrongly stated that Mr Dismore had opposed proposals that would have led to better attendance times for his residents . I now accept that not to be the case. Mr Dismore supported those elements of the draft fire plan which would have improved attendance times in Barnet and opposed those elements of the plan which would have led to worse attendance times in Camden. I wish to apologise unreservedly to Mr Dismore for any embarrassment caused.”

Andrew Boff
London Wide Assembly Member
Leader – GLA Conservatives

the apology can be seen at:

Mr Dismore has been assured by Mr Boff that It has been sent to all those who received the original defamatory comments.

Mr Dismore said:

“Conservative Assembly members seem to be making a habit of libelling me. This is the second occasion in 3 months, when they have been forced to apologise to me publicly for peddling untruths. it is outrageous that they think they can behave in this way with personal attacks, rather than debate the issues properly.  I have also asked the Barnet Councillor who repeated these untrue allegations in the Council now to withdraw and apologise and we will have to see if he now has the good grace to do so.

It just goes to prove, you cannot trust what the Conservatives say

Mr Boff’s unfortunate attack detracts from the real issues at stake, the draconian cuts in the fire service which London Mayor Johnson intends to impose, overruling the London Fire Authority which voted the cuts package down”.
