Emirates cable car sponsorship: who else?

Earlier today, Andrew Dismore Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden wrote to Mayor Boris Johnson about the discriminatory contract of sponsorship of the Emirates Cable Car, which excludes any Israeli involvement from the operation of the car.

Mr Dismore said:

“However, that is not the end of the story. The terms in the contract seem to be standard terms insisted on by the Emirates, when sponsoring attractions.

In addition to the Emirates Airline cable car, amongst other deals, Emirates sponsors many other events and organisations.

The question must now be asked, do these sponsorship deals also exclude Israeli companies form the operation of the events and organisations? Have such discriminatory terms been agreed to by these bodies, when seeking deals? And are similar terms required for sponsorship by other Gulf based businesses, in their sponsorship deals?

I think we are entitled to know, and I am writing to these organisations accordingly. I hope they have not been as foolish as Mayor Johnson is signing their sponsorship agreements, and that they will, in the spirit of openness, make clear where they stand on such discrimination.”
