Police cuts in Camden: have your say!
London Mayor Boris Johnson is cutting the Metropolitan Police by 20%
As you may have noticed this 20% cut has worked through to Camden. Since the last general election our police numbers in Camden have gone down dramatically:
This means 234 fewer pairs of eyes and ears to keep us safe.
Overall, The Met has lost than 3,062 officers since the last general election. They had 30,085 officers in December — the lowest level since spring 2004 — despite Mayor Boris Johnson’s now broken pre-election pledge to keep to about 32,000 officers.
You now have a chance to question and challenge the Deputy Mayor for policing and senior Met officers about what has been going on:

for example, you could ask about:
· Police numbers
· The end of the safer neighbourhood teams, where ward ring fenced officers have gone down from a total of 6 to just 2
· The closure of Hampstead, West Hampstead and Albany Street Police Stations and reduced hours at Holborn police station
· Why the stations’ replacement “contact points” have been such a failure: just 11 contact point visits per week across the whole of Camden over the last three months
· Are the police spending too much time in cars again and not enough on foot patrol
· The use of tasers in Camden: in the year since November 2012 when they started it has been used by local officers 65 times
· Are the water cannons the mayor wants to buy a waste of money when the police are so strapped for cash and an affront to the right to peaceful protest
· Use of stop and search
· Why anti social behaviour is not one of the targets for crime reduction
· Burglary and other crimes
· why they are so secretive about race discrimination claims against the police
and of course the list could go on!!
