NHS Public Health allocations: unfair to Barnet

MayorsQuestionTime

In today’s City Hall Health Committee meeting, Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden today challenged NHS chiefs over their allocation of public health resources.  Mr Dismore revealed that In 2013/14, Westminster received £132 per head, and Kensington and Chelsea, £130. Yet Barnet received only £ 37, despite having worse life expectancies than either Westminster or Kensington. (See appendix A below)

After the hearings , Mr Dismore said:

“These discrepancies in NHS money for public health are unfair and unjustifiable. The managers’ only excuse was that it was based on historic spending patterns and that there were unspecified wide ranges in life expectancies. Yet we see in  parts of Barnet, especially in the west of the borough, significantly  poorer expectancy, for example in Burnt Oak.

The NHS must ensure that next year’s allocations are fair and transparent and rooted in need, and not based on some sort of misplaced analysis ”
