Community Victory over Mausoleum plan

Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member and parliamentary candidate for Hendon today welcomed the news, just released, that the developers have withdrawn the plan to build a giant mausoleum in Mill Hill.

Mr Dismore has just received email confirmation from the Council (see below).

Mr Dismore said:

“This means  that the plan for the Mausoleum is now dead- at least for now. There will be no need to attend the Planning Committee tomorrow for this item.

“This wonderful result  is a real credit to the strong community campaign that has seen off this appalling proposal that would have wrecked the Green Belt, the conservation area, and the important wildlife habitats on the site.

“However, a word of caution. I am sure this will not be the end of the story. No doubt the developers will come back with another  application with modified proposals. As and when this happens, then the  campaign will have to start all over again, as it is a recognised tactic for developers to wear down the opposition by repeated applications  until one finally gets through. Having said that though, if everyone sticks together we can fight these unwelcome people off yet again and wear them down instead!

“This is good news now though, and I am pleased to have helped local people stand up for our  environment and see off the developers threat to Mill Hill.”

email from Barnet Council:

I have been advised that the applicant has withdrawn the application H/01134/14 – Barnet Cemetery & Memorial Gardens, Milespit Hill, London, NW7 2RR. Therefore please note that this item will be not considered by the Committee on Thursday 1 May 2014.

Kind Regards
