Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna MP accepted the invitation of Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member and parliamentary candidate for Hendon to visit Watling Avenue, to hear from local traders about their businesses in Burnt Oak.

Andrew Dismore said:

“It is great that Chuka came  Burnt Oak, to hear at first hand the concerns of our local traders. Watling Avenue is the forgotten shopping centre of Barnet and as such receives no attention from the Conservative Council who ignore the needs of both shoppers and businesses alike.

“This was a real opportunity for local people and shop owners to put their point of view direct to the Shadow Secretary of State for Business and to hear about Labour’s alternatives to help small business.”

Chuka Umunna MP said:

“I’m delighted to be visiting Burnt Oak to hear first hand from local businesses about the issues that matter to them and to talk about Agenda 2030 – Labour’s long-term plan for better-balanced growth.

“The cost-of-living-crisis hasn’t just hit individuals and families hard but businesses too. Under the Tory-led government small firms have seen hikes in business rates of £1,500 on average. In contrast, the next Labour government will cut and then freeze business rates to help small businesses like those in Burnt Oak.”
