Dismore welcomes Abu Hamza verdict
Andrew Dismore, Labour London Assembly member and parliamentary candidate for Hendon has welcomed the United States court verdict, that Abu Hamza is guilty of terrorist related offences.
Mr Dismore said:
“I first raised in Parliament the evil activities of Abu Hamza as long ago as early 1998, when I was MP for Hendon. I was a lone voice in Parliament warning of the dangers of the extremist hate preachers who were prevalent but ignored by the authorities at that time. Abu Hamza had been give British citizenship in the 1980s by Mrs Thatcher’s government.
“I told Parliament about his involvement in the kidnappings in the Yemen. I also raised the training camp in Oregon, and of course Abu Hamza’s radicalisation of worshippers at the Finsbury Park mosque.
“In the UK, welcome action was only taken after 9/11, but this did not include the crimes in the Yemen or in the US, in large part because our courts were not, and are still not, allowed to hear intercept evidence.
“I am pleased that after so long, we are now seeing justice being done, justice which Abu Hamza despises. It looks like he will spend the rest of his life behind bars, which is where this highly dangerous individual belongs.”
