Dismore urges more action on Strawberry Vale to tackle rat infestation

London Assembly member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has joined local Councillors in East Finchley to call on more action by Barnet Council and the Peabody Trust to tackle a rat infestation at the bins on Old Farm Road, part of the Strawberry Vale Estate.

On a visit to the estate with local Councillors Arjun Mittra, Alison Moore and Alon Or-bach, Mr Dismore met with representatives of the Strawberry Vale Tenants and Residents Association. They also spoke to residents affected by the infestation.

Mr Dismore said:

‘The Councillors and I have written to Barnet Council to ask that the refuse team ensue the bins are closed and stored properly after they are emptied, and that their supervisor checks that this happens every week until it is routine. I have also written to Peabody urging them to up the poison doses in the rat traps, and ensure that the traps are resupplied regularly until the rat population is reduced. Then they must destroy the nests.’

‘It was good to see that the community is coming together, as it did when the gas supply was cut off in February. It is easier to solve these problems when there is one united voice. This is another unfortunate incident for this tight-knit community, though I hope our actions will swiftly resolve the situation’
