Fuel Poverty figures branded “shameful”

Figures published by National Energy Action, a charity that aims to end Fuel Poverty, reported that 11.4% of households in Barnet and Camden suffer fuel poverty.

Labour London Assembly member Mr Dismore said:

‘Despite drops in oil prices, one in ten Barnet and Camden residents have to pay over 10% of their income just to keep warm. It’s a scandal in 21st Century Britain that anyone is still forced to choose between heating and eating.

‘The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan understands why this is important, and how the worst impact is felt by the poorest. I welcome the Mayor’s £1 million better boiler fund, which helps replace or repair damaged or inefficient boilers. This is basic social justice, and in London the Labour Mayor is rising to the challenge.’
