Representing the largest Jewish community in the country, Mr Dismore expressed his Jewish constituents’ concerns about the Hezbollah supporting demonstration.

Mr D told the mayor that he had previously raised the issue with the police and had attended and spoken at the counter protest. He said that the distinction between ‘political’ and ‘military’ wings of Hezbollah was not one he or his constituents recognised.

Mr Dismore said:

‘If there is a distinction, then the flags of Hezbollah on the march should have displayed a ballot box, not a Kalashnikov. The fact that they don’t, says it all’
