Info from TfL regarding Overground servcies

From Sunday 20 May, customers using London Overground services from Richmond/Clapham Junction and Stratford are reminded to check before they travel as new timetables have been introduced.

Off peak services between Clapham Junction and Stratford have been increased to four trains per hour in each direction, helping support the growth in leisure customers wanting to visiting Stratford, Shepherds Bush, Hampstead Heath and the Camden Area. The timings of some peak services may have also changed to allow major timetable changes to GTR services, who share some of the tracks with the London Overground.

Further information on the changes that may affect your constituents are noted below; you can view the London Overground route map here.

North London Line (Richmond – Stratford)

  • Nearly all off-peak Clapham Junction trains will start/terminate at Stratford (currently only about half do, the other start/terminate at Willesden Junction)
  • Off-peak trains between Willesden Junction and Stratford will increase from every 10 minutes to about every 7-8 minutes (matching the current peak frequency). This will help support the growth in leisure customers wanting to visiting Stratford, Shepherds Bush, Hampstead Heath and the Camden area
  • There will continue to be four trains per hour on the Richmond branch at nearly all times of day
  • Six weekday afternoon off-peak Richmond branch services (three in each direction) will temporarily start/terminate at South Acton. The longest gap between trains will be 24 mins (compared to a standard new maximum of 16 mins and a current maximum of 20 mins). The changes have been carefully planned to meet customer demand at these times and allow us to provide more frequent services along the line where it will benefit the most people

West London line (Willesden Junction – Clapham Junction)

  • There will continue to be four London Overground trains per hour between Clapham Junction and Willesden Junction, but the times of many trains will change. We encourage people to check before they travel
  • Southern Rail has changed its arrangements so that it now runs fewer, but longer trains on the West London Line (providing the same overall capacity)
  • The London Overground will continue to provide the same capacity on the West London Line as it does now
  • Nearly all off-peak Clapham Junction trains will start/terminate at Stratford (currently only about half do, the other start/terminate at Willesden Junction)
  • Off-peak trains between Willesden Junction and Stratford will increase from every 10 minutes to about every 7-8 minutes (matching the current peak frequency)

Gospel Oak – Barking line

  • The new timetable maintains similar frequencies to those currently operating
  • The published timetable does not show the five additional services which currently run across the morning and afternoon peak. However, we will continue to operate additional peak time trains until the new, larger electric trains are introduced later this summer. We intend for these extra trains to operate at a similar frequency to now, but encourage passengers to check before travelling
  • The services no longer shown on the timetable are extra trains currently provided between the regular timetabled service at peak times to reduce congestion. They will not be needed once the new, larger capacity electric trains are introduced later this summer.
  • Network Rail is still finalising the necessary safety testing for the newly electrified line to allow the new trains to operate. The delivery of the new trains has also been delayed slightly by Bombardier Transport due to the need for further software development.
  • We continue to work closely with Bombardier Transportation and Network Rail with new trains expected to enter service later this summer
