planning objection to Golders Green tennis court application

Objection to planning application for Land Fronting St Andrew’s Road And Portsdown Avenue Golders Green London NW11 0PJ, Ref: 18/4546/FUL

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to object to the above application in my capacity as London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden.

This application sets a dangerous precedent for the loss of sports and physical recreation facilities for more development. These tennis courts are decades old, providing an oasis of trees and flowers in an otherwise busy part of Golders Green. Its loss would be a major blow to the quality of the environment in the area.

The loss of sports facilities and recreational space is explicitly against Barnet Council’s own planning policies, as is the loss of several mature trees and green spaces. The application itself is for a development that is severely out of keeping with the local area, and represents a major overdevelopment of the site.

I therefore urge the Council to reject this application and make a stand for recreational facilities in the borough.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Dismore AM
