Hezbollah finally to be proscribed

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has welcomed the decision to proscribe the military wing of Hezbollah, though says the decision has been taken far too late.

Hezbollah is an Islamist political party based in Lebanon, whose military wing are responsible for a number of terrorist attacks.

Mr Dismore said:

‘It has taken far too long to take this decision, despite pleas to former Home Secretaries Theresa May, Amber Rudd and now Sajid Javid. But I am pleased that they have finally taken a lead from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, who supported the call by myself and many others for the proscribing. It has been totally unacceptable for people to fly a terrorist flag for several years at the Al-Quds Day marches. I hope that the police will now take robust action should anyone fly them again.’
