Camden in top 5 boroughs for hate crimes

Camden Council has been listed as one of the top 5 boroughs in London for the number of hate crimes; (faith, anti-Semitic, disability, transgender, homophobic and racist and religious crimes) according to police data for 2018.

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore said:

‘Residents of Camden will know the borough as one that celebrates its diversity with a great deal of pride. It is therefore shocking to see the borough among the top five for hate crimes. Whilst it is probable that those committing the crimes may not be local residents, we certainly do not want these crimes happening here. The rise of extremist politics on the back of Brexit seems to have brought out old prejudices, as have social media and fake news.

‘Responding to hate crime is a policing priority and the Met treat these offences with the seriousness they deserve.’
