Dismore urges support for outdoor classroom crowdfund

Labour London Assembly Member for Barnet and Camden Andrew Dismore has urged residents to back a crowdfunding bid to transform an empty field in Barnet into a thriving working farm to teach children and the local community about food, nutrition and the environment.

GROW is a life skills education programme that exposes children to nature, teaches them about nutrition and provides a sustainable source of food for schools and the local community. They are seeking to transform a 6-acre field next to the Totteridge Academy into a vibrant working farm, growing fresh fruit & vegetables to supply the school’s canteen.

Mr Dismore said:

‘I visited The Totteridge Academy last year and saw their incredible work to drastically improve exam results, so I’m pleased to be able to support their bid. If they can raise £156,331 from donations, the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan will top it up with £50,000.’

Underhill Councillor Cllr Paul Edwards added:

‘It is fantastic news that Mayor Sadiq Khan is supporting this excellent project. I am a school governor at The Totteridge Academy, it is a joy to work closely with the dedicated staff team. The GROW project is innovative, opening new horizons for our students via a practical, educative and life skills activity which they will take with them on life’s journey, and its great fun. It’s a privilege to part of it this improving school for the children of the families in my ward.’
